History & lOCALITY

Based within the Prestigeous Dolphin Quay Antiques Centre, which was once a Boat Shed used by the Traditional Boatyard next door, in the charming coastal village of Emsworth, made famous centuries ago by its Oyster Fishing Industry. Emsworth is half way between the historic cities of Chichester and Portsmouth (Home of the Royal Navy and Admiral Lord Nelson's famous ship "H.M.S. victory"), and is easily accessible by road, sea and air, on the South Coast of England, UK.

Anchor Antiques has been trading at Dolphin Quay since December 2003, and has acquired many regular visitors from the U.K. and Overseas, who love to browse around the Genuine Maritime items, mainly British and Royal Naval, and also the selection of Edwardian, Victorian and Georgian pieces of small Object d'verte, furniture and copperware, as well as our other interesting pieces of Nostalgia.

When visiting this region, the visitor can't help but be swept along by the history and romance of its Seafaring Traditions. There's the Royal Navy Dockyard and its ships, both historic and modern, castles, museums, the Solent with all its continuous activity of shipping, sailing past the Portsmouth beaches, which are lined with castles and forts, built by King Henry VIII, and more forts, built out in the sea, by brilliant Victorian engineers, commissioned by Prime Minister Palmerston, to ward off England's enemies of the time!

And now, still amid so much controversy and publicity, the infamous "Spinnaker Tower", situated at the Gunwharf Shopping Complex, is open to the public at last (it was planned to be ready to celebrate the arrival of the New Millenium, at a much lower cost!). However, once you have reached the top of this fantastic piece of design, on a clear day, you can see views over the land and sea for twenty-three miles! Don't forget your camera and camcorder!

Calling in to see our range of genuine Maritime Nostalgia can only compliment the whole experience, and you can see if you can find the ultimate souvenir to take home with you, at prices to suit all pockets!
